We believe that our Internship Program is very comprehensive and rewarding, as we are able to offer opportunities in over six different departments to college or graduate students each year. Those who are selected to be an intern will acquire practical knowledge through hands-on experience and will gain the invaluable skills necessary to compete for jobs in the sports industry when their program is completed.
Even if you have already made contact via a resume or phone call, you must formally re-apply for the internship program or programs of your choice by following the specific application procedure set forth on each of the following pages. If you decide to apply for more than one internship position, remember to follow each procedure separately and indicate in each instance that you have applied to someone else within the organization as well. The maximum number of internship positions that you can apply for is two.
No regular financial compensation is available for our internship program positions, but we do provide a commission structure for our sales positions. Please note that any candidate selected as a finalist will be interviewed at the front office in Indianapolis. Any travel and/or accommodations will be at an intern's own expense, during both the selection process and internship. No interns will be selected over the telephone.
Game Operations & Promotions Internship
Time Periods: Sept. 1- May 1 (Full Season) May 1- Aug. 30 (Summer)
Hours Required: 20-30 hours per week
When to Apply: Submit formal application with description of which internship you wish to apply for 4 months before starting date. All applicants will receive acknowledgment of our receipt of their application.
What to Expect: These positions are unpaid and students must be receiving college credit. Applications will be kept on file until two months before the start of an associate period. At that time, people will be selected to come in, at their own expense, for the interview process.
Interns in Game Operations will assist in the coordination of talent bookings for home games; assist with the mascots on their appearances; assist with invoicing and contracts as necessary for appearances and talent bookings; and assist in coordination and on-floor execution of game timeouts, contests, game activities and events prior to, during, and after games.
Criteria & Qualifications:
- Excellent phone skills
- Excellent computer skills; specifically Microsoft Word
- Detail oriented
- Able to deal with internal and external clients in a professional manner
- Marketing; sports administration; or related business majors
- Excellent writing skills
- Able to keep track or multiple calendars
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the coordination of talent bookings; contracts and invoices as they pertain to our NBA and WNBA mascots
- Assist Mascots on their appearances
General office duties
- Assist in coordination and on floor execution of game timeouts; contests; game activities and events prior to; during; and after the game.
- Will sit in on all Game Operations meetings; as well as marketing meetings.
- Interns will be given various assignments and projects to work on including; but not limited to; interaction and information exchange with other NBA teams and WNBA teams.
