You have worked with edgier organizations, counting MTV and Howard Stern … and you are now charged with developing successful entertainment and sports programming that appeals across a variety of audiences. Will that be a challenge?
MTV, Howard and MSG each have unique brand identities and they all share a common denominator: a passionate fan base. My success will be a function of how well I come to understand MSG’s core audience and am able to provide new programming that appeals to them, while at the same time engages new viewers.

What kind of programming do you think MSG/MSG Plus is lacking or could do a better job of?
MSG Networks provides award-winning coverage of seven professional teams, and clearly knows how to super-serve fans of those teams. Coming from an entertainment background, I hope to bring a different perspective to the programming that I develop for MSG/MSG Plus.

What is the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career?
Asking to be released from my executive contract at Fox Broadcasting Co. to accept a two-week tryout as a guest writer on “Saturday Night Live.”

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?
Co-writing with Howard Stern his autobiographical animated television series, “Howard Stern: The High School Years.”

What is your biggest professional disappointment?
Not obtaining theatrical distribution for “Good Money” — an independent movie I wrote, produced, directed and starred in — in spite of the fact that it won the Best Feature award at the 1997 New York Comedy Film Festival.

What career advice do you have for people wanting into the sports industry?
Go to college and simultaneously work hard at as many student internships in the business as you can. Experience combined with strong professional contacts is a potent combination.

What is one story you are continuing to watch in the sports world today?
I’m a boxing fan, so I’m eagerly anticipating the Pacquiao-Cotto fight. Miguel Cotto has fought at the Garden a number of times, all great fights, and I’m expecting another one with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
