Monumental Sports and Entertainment is a multi‐faceted sports and entertainment organization founded by Chairman and majority owner Ted Leonsis. Based in Washington, D.C., Monumental owns and operates the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals and WNBA’s Washington Mystics. Monumental, which merged Lincoln Holdings and Washington Sports and Entertainment on June 10, 2010, also owns and operates Verizon Center, the premier sports and entertainment venue in Washington, D.C. The Verizon Center has welcomed almost 26 million people through the turnstiles of the arena, participating in close to 2,200 concerts, family shows and world‐class sporting events. Additionally, the group controls the local Ticketmaster franchise, Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the Capitals’ state‐of‐the‐art training facility in Arlington, Va., and George Mason University’s Patriot Center, located in Fairfax, Va.

SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Marketing will be responsible for all facets of leading and managing the marketing department for both the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics. This includes oversight of Marketing and Promotions, Public Relations, Community Relations and New Media & CRM. The list below features essential duties including but not limited to:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Developing and implementing the long‐term brand strategy, creating and maintaining a relevant and differentiating positioning and offering; •Creating and managing annual Marketing plan (Marketing and New Media, Public Relations, Community Relations and Media Relations) to include objectives, goals and supporting programs, ensuring their successful and timely completion; •Overseeing and directing the Annual Marketing Campaigns, ensuring they consistently communicate the brand message, while also providing strong direct‐response messaging for ticket sales campaigns and promotions; •Managing the Wizards/Mystics Promotional Strategy, building upon proven successes and seeking new opportunities that drive awareness; •Guiding the overall CRM strategy – database management and direct/e‐mail initiatives – to acquire, engage and monetize new and existing customers; •Overseeing and improving research initiatives, to include Fan Loyalty Tracker and concept testing; •Providing direction and oversight for media budget and placement, ensuring Wizards/Mystics messaging is efficiently and effectively placed where each team’s target audience consumes media; •Driving and developing the new media strategy, deploying resources against those means that have the most effective and efficient reach, allowing the Wizards/Mystics to connect with customers, leverage content, and drive conversion; •Managing the overall game presentation, ensuring delivery performs well against League standards and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction; •Leading the Community Relations Department to create programs that effectively promote Washington/Mystics brands, while also making a difference in the community; •Directing Wizards/Mystics Public Relations efforts, seeking, optimizing, and measuring media exposure for the entire Wizards/Mystics organization, on and off the court; •Driving Verizon Center projects including but not limited to marketing campaigns, signage, promotional materials, building upgrades, etc; •Maintaining and constantly improving integration to ensure consistency in messaging and in the overall brand experience; •Managing and preparing annual budget; monitor and approve revenue and expenditures during the year; •Overseeing the day‐to‐day functions associated with all marketing staff and programs; •Ensuring the delivery of quality marketing services to our internal customers while seeking integrated, efficient and effective inter‐departmental processes; •Interviewing, selecting, developing, evaluating and counseling the senior staff of the Marketing Department while providing appropriate level of support and/or intervention for all marketing staff; •Creating marketing policies & procedures that are consistent with Monumental Sports & Entertainment philosophies; instructing and advising staff on changes in policies & procedures; •Serving as the Wizards/Mystics representative to the League on all marketing issues; and •Other duties as assigned by the EVP, Business Operations.

•Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. •Must have minimum ten years experience in related field, preferably sports and entertainment. •At least five years experience in managing a marketing staff for another professional sports team. •Proven leadership qualities and organizational skills; ability to manage and motivate sales staff to achieve departmental and organizational goals. •Willing to work long hours, including weekends and holidays as needed |
