Job Description:
Our internship program has multiple objectives:
- To provide sports management students with a broad exposure to the sports industry in general and, more specifically, to issues, opportunities and programming related to women's sports and physical activity;
- To provide a professional work experience to college students interested in pursuing sports-related careers;
- To provide interns with access to valuable future employer contacts and assistance in determining personal career goals; and
- To provide the Foundation, an internationally recognized 501(c)3 educational nonprofit organization, with talented, ambitious and knowledgeable individuals to assist in the implementation of our advocacy, communications, development, education and grant programs;
Where You Will Work: Interns work in East Meadow, N.Y., located 45 minutes from New York City.
Your Committment: Interns must commit to the Foundation for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 1 year, and are expected to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Internships are available in two sessions - January to June or June to December.
Compensation: Interns receive a stipend ranging from $800/mo. to $900/mo.
Housing: The Foundation does not provide housing for interns, however, upon acceptance to the program, the Foundation will provide a list of local housing and highly encourages prospective interns to investigate all possibilities for housing through friends, family and other networks.
A Great Job! Half of your day is spent in the Foundation's Information Referral Service answering the toll-free phone line, responding to information requests, and referring people to other sources for information. The other half is spent working in the sport career area of your choice.
Fundraising and External Relations Intern
Interns in this area will be involved in all aspects of fundraising for non-profits. This includes direct mail projects, donor mailings, solicitation of funds for projects and programs, and special events. Interns assist in expanding and enhancing the Foundations donor relationships including work on cultivation efforts, distributing resources, sending timely information and thank you gifts, maintaining files, and conducting research via the web on prospective funding sources. Additionally, interns are involved with Foundation events (Salute to Women in Sports Dinner, NGWSD, Basketball Classic) to both raise funds and educate donors of our work. Development interns must have good knowledge of database management, word processing, writing skills, initiative, professional communication skills, and a desire to learn about fundraising.
