Job Description:

PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES AND COMPETENCIES OF THE NEXT LEADER:

The Board believes their next CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to accept and achieve excellence in the following roles:

Shape and drive the vision of the Association to strengthen the foundations of our community through the family, nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the community's health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.


The next CEO should (be):
  • A passionate advocate of the Association's mission.
  • An informed and insightful interpreter of key social trends and conditions.
  • Commit to the organization's core values.
  • Skilled in the art of collaboration, forming alliances and partnerships that benefit the Association's goals.
  • Understand and relate to the social/political/geographical differences among all Association communities in the South Hampton Roads region and is able to move with comfort between urban, suburban, and rural constituency.
  • Advocates and appreciates diversity, inclusion, and different perspectives within the community.
  • Embrace the Association brand and be committed to the Association as a cause driven organization.
  • A skilled strategic thinker who is able to link operational goals with strategic vision.
  • Assess and implement organizational and business model changes, as necessary, to achieve the vision of the strategic plan in light of emerging economic realities, including the demands of increased financial assistance.
  • Embrace and demonstrate skills necessary for organizational change.
  • Commit to the institutionalization of diversity and inclusion in the Association.

  • Design and implement the association financial development plan.
  • Cultivate, engage, and retain top community leaders for the leadership of the Association.
  • Become recognized as an inspirational community leader who navigates complex political and social circles.
  • Develop lasting relationships with influential leaders to impact and strengthen the community.
  • Lead a culture of volunteerism ensuring engagement, inclusion, and ownership.
  • Promote the global nature of the Association.
  • Understand the dynamics of a large and diverse board, including how to work effectively with the committee structure.
  • Engage directors to obtain the best contributions of time, energy, and financial support.
  • Manage the affairs of the Association.
  • Experienced in managing extensive financial assets, as well as capital assets such as land, buildings and equipment; motivated by the highest principles of good stewardship over the long term.
  • Financially skilled with strong budgeting experience and a consistent record of budget balancing/surplus production.
  • Direct short and long-term financial goals for the association involving board and staff.
  • Drive change by leveraging resources and creating alignment to expand organizational opportunities.

    Education:

    A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten years of exceptional executive leadership within the Association movement or comparable executive experience. Association Organizational Leader status or similar is preferred.
