Detroit Pistons Rule The Hype Video World for 2016 (so far)

During my years in sports broadcasting, promotional hype videos would fall on my desk often. This guy for Heisman, that gal for FIFA player of the year, boy wonder for Silver Slugger – all kinds of reels hyping up an event or an individual.

I watched each and every one for two main reasons – 1: I am a certifiable sports dork. 2: I am a certifiable editing dork.

When an editor skillfully matches music with quick cuts of dunks, home runs, stolen bases, overhead smashes and bicycle kicks…I’m hooked. Some people watch cat videos in awe, I watch sports hype reels.

But this is different, this submission from the Detroit Pistons public relations squad is a marvel unto itself.

Barack Obama Andre Drummond

Hours were spent going through speeches looking for just the right words to mashup into this Andre Drummond hype video. Detroit Pistons, I respect you.

Think of the lenghts they had to go, hunting and pecking through Obama speeches to get the right words to mash-up with the music. Insanity. Pure insanity. What for you may look like 42 seconds of enjoyment to me looks like 2 weeks of watching political speeches and getting excited when Obama finally says “this boy” because that is the cut you’ve searched for for days.

I salute you Detroit Pistons – even if you could have had a little more Andre Drummond in there.
