Job Description:

US Equestrian seeks an organized and flexible individual familiar with equestrian sports and high performance programs to manage the central programs for the US Equestrian’s High Performance Sport Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Sport, the Project Director provides leadership to key cross-discipline programs, the High Performance Program Annual Review, and the logistics preparations and delivery for U.S. Equestrian Teams at the World, Pan Am, Olympic, and Paralympic Games. The role includes overseeing the Sport Programs Assistant in providing advanced administrative assistance to the Director of Sport and managing the Equestrian Teams’ clothing (equine and human) inventory and team equipment.

The position will manage the development and delivery of the Human and Equine Sports Science and Medicine Programs including developing the delivery plans and budget, coordinating practitioners, and identifying performance enhancing opportunities. The Director will lead on preparations for and the delivery of the new in-person Program Annual Review and will be a key person in identifying and following up on learning opportunities. The Director will also play a central role in developing and delivering “off horse” educational opportunities. The Project Director will take on a major role in Games preparation for Olympic Games, Pan Am Games and World Equestrian Games which include duties such as logistics, accommodation, tickets, registration, accreditation, transportation, equipment packing, and import/export paperwork. The Director will work closely with the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) staff in completing requests specific to Games initiatives and be responsible for managing USOC databases for Games registration, Elite Athlete Health Insurance, Op Gold Events, and Staff Selection Procedures. This position will also be responsible for maintaining inventory control on both human and equine clothing and equipment. The Director works closely with all Disciplines, Marketing and Communications, Legal and IT departments to develop a trusting relationship and to create a clear communication pathway.

The Project Director will be responsible for overseeing the submission and review of all the FEI discipline’s accounting requests; scheduling meetings for the Sport Department, International Disciplines Council and Athletes Advisory Committee; producing agendas; drafting minutes; and handling rule submissions. This role serves as the liaison with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, communicates clean sport initiatives to the athletes, organizes educational presentations, schedules testing events and submits necessary paperwork to the FEI regarding athlete’s use of medication. In fulfilling these responsibilities, this position interacts with executive and senior management, staff, members, committees, sponsors, sponsor prospects, the USET Foundation, USOC, FEI, and various affiliate bodies as well as the general public. Maintaining confidentiality is a primary requirement of this position. This position requires a “no job to big or small” attitude and someone who can stay one step ahead in a fast-paced environment. A flexible schedule with frequent night/weekend work and travel is required.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Six years of directly-related experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE: At least three years of professional work experience required, preferably in a sport environment. Knowledge of, or experience in, the international equestrian sport is preferred. Knowledge of Sports Science & Medicine programs and/or athlete development programs is beneficial. Experience of Olympic or World-level Games is also beneficial.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: The ideal candidate is extremely outgoing and has strong communication skills. Must be independent, detail-oriented, and a quick study who is willing to go the extra step to get the job done. Must be proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office software. Frequent travel is required.
