Job Description:

University of Washington Recreation’s mission is to provide safe, accessible, and dynamic recreation experiences to engage students in growth and wellbeing.

The Associate Director provides executive oversight to an extensive portfolio which includes Buildings & Grounds, Member Services (including locker rooms and equipment), and a Golf Driving Range. Direct supervision of five managers (who in turn manage approximately 18 permanent FTEs and large student staffs), providing guidance in planning a multi-million dollar budget, advising, counseling, and facilitating problem solving efforts across all areas of facilities and operations, including department wide risk management efforts, offers a myriad of challenges and opportunities for a seasoned recreation/higher education professional.

This position reports to the Director, serves on the five member Recreation Executive Team, and represents the department across campus. It interacts with department staff on all initiatives related to the operational and facility needs for Recreation and participates in the development of long-range plans for the department.

A unique aspect of this position is a planned six- to nine-month overlap with the retiring Associate Director, to take advantage of his long and successful tenure which has seen many campus relationships developed and maintained that we want to ensure are continued. The planned overlap would begin in Fall of 2017.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Six+ years’ experience as a professional in the fields of Higher Education, Recreation, and/or Non-profit Management.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (may be trained after employment).
  • Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and colleagues.
