The Senior Accountant will oversee accounting functions pertaining to the pari-mutuel department money rooms and cash vaults. On a daily basis, the staff accountant will perform a money room reconciliation between tote system activity and vault cash. Oversee NYRA Bets tax reporting, accounting, financial reporting and settlement activity.
•On a daily basis, provides the Treasurer and Assistant Controller with a daily vault proof to document that all line item transactions are reconciled and in balance. This includes combined vault proofs tying in the transactions between the 3 money rooms at Aqueduct, Belmont & Saratoga (when in operation).
•On a monthly basis, provides a spreadsheet to Treasurer and Assistant Controller summarizing amounts due to Accounting and amounts owed to mutuels.
•On a monthly basis, work with Assistant Controller during the close period to book money room reconciliation entries.
•Record weekly cash transactions for wagering/operating accounts
•Reconcile Tote reports to customer banking/promotions activity
•Prepare month end journal entries
•Prepare monthly reconciliation of due to/from accounts
•Generate monthly P&L and Balance Sheet for review along with variance analysis to budget and prior year
•Calculate source market fee accrual and reconciliation to CHRIMS reporting
•Track promotional adjustments made to tote wagering accounts
•Supply internal and external auditors with any information requested to ensure the integrity of the vault operation.
•Maintain and update the W2-G and 1042 database for accuracy.
•On a weekly basis, report Federal, State and Foreign gambling withholdings to Payroll and Finance. At year end, reconcile the W2G and 1042 tax files that are sent electronically to the IRS for NYRA and NYRA Bets.
•On a weekly basis, submit state tax withholdings and/or other tax obligations to various states (NYRA Bets)
•Reconciliation of the NYRA Bets restricted bank account with NYRA Bets tote activity.
•Experience: CPA or MBA is required; Minimum of two years of experience at a strong (ideally a “Big 4” accounting firm) and three years of experience in corporate accounting.
•5 years of relevant racetrack experience or banking experience
•General understanding of accounting principles;
•Solid computer skills, including excel spreadsheet
•Detail oriented with good organizational skills;
•Sound judgment and respect of confidentiality of sensitive information.;
