Job Description:

Experience: Significant coaching experience at college, select club or high school varsity level in respective sport. Residential camp experience is desirable; experience developing, implementing and evaluating athlete development in a camp-style setting strongly preferred. Professional coaching license in respective sport(s), when applicable, preferred but not required.

The Role: A Head Coach must first and foremost be a positive role model who enjoys being with, and providing guidance to children. A Head coach should possess mastery of his/her respective sport; have an established, successful methodology and be able to assess athlete skill levels, address areas of improvement and establish individual goals for athletes. A Head Coach should be patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all coaches. A Head Coach should have a clear understanding of the mission and vision of camp.

Additionally, it is the expectation that a Head Coach will see themselves as a member of the greater camp community willing to participate in activities beyond athletic coaching responsibilities. He or she must see that every athlete makes friends, grows towards his or her potential, and enjoys doing so. As situations do arise, Head Coaches must have the ability to adjust plans accordingly and maintain a level of flexibility.

Create a supportive, motivational and positive environment for young athletes to grow physically, emotionally and spiritually.
In partnership with Athletic Director establish and execute skill development curriculum, prior to the summer, appropriate for a wide range of ages and ability levels
Conduct on-going skill evaluations and assist athletes in setting individual goals; complete end of session written evaluations for each athlete, in consultation with assistant coaches
Supervise, mentor and evaluate assistant coaches throughout the summer; conduct verbal evaluation following each session and provide written final evaluation at the conclusion of the summer
Engage assistant coaches meaningfully in day to day supervision, instruction and motivation of athletes
Supervise, mentor and evaluate assistant coaches in creating and implementing camper electives and other recreational activities
Be involved in daily lives of athletes and counselors/assistant coaches; update directors with concerns on a consistent basis, seeking guidance when necessary when health, disciplinary, interpersonal or other issues arise
Be present and participate in all camp programming including but not limited to Friday night Shabbat Services, Maccabiah (color wars), 5K, Beach trip, etc.
Participate in pre-summer planning calls with Athletic Director and Directors team, attend pre-summer staff training week, daily coaches meetings and general staff meetings
Understand and be capable of executing all emergency procedures
Live in camp dorm and perform Super Shmira (night-time on-call duty) 1-2x per session
