Job Description:

The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), a NCAA Division III conference, is accepting applications for the UMAC Director of Championships, Promotions and Special Projects. This is a 10-month full-time internship covering two academic years including 2017-18 and 2018-19. The internship is funded primarily through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Womenís Internship Grant program. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Director of Championships, Promotions and Special Projects will be actively involved in all aspects of operations and administration in an 18-sport NCAA Division III conference, including championships, compliance and governance, public relations, marketing and promotions, sports information and digital media, strategic planning, special projects, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) oversight and general conference administration. This position will play an integral role in conference development, program enhancement and increased support and services for UMAC member institutions. Applicants should have at minimum a bachelorís degree in a related field (sports management, sports administration, public relations, marketing, communications, etc.) with strong interpersonal and written communication skills as well as a career goal in athletics administration. Applicants should have work experience in athletics. Familiarity and/or experience in website management and desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite) preferred.

The internship position will provide a minimum annual salary of $25,000 funded primarily by the NCAA, but will also include some benefit offerings and a yearly $3,000 stipend for professional development. The position will be based at the conference office in St. Paul, Minnesota. The position will report directly to the Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner. The hired individual must attend the NCAA grant program orientation July 27-28, 2017, in Indianapolis at the NCAA National Office. The in-office starting date for the position is August 1, 2017.
