Job Description:

New Mexico Highlands University is a Division II NCAA institution in the RMAC conference located in Las Vegas, NM. Las Vegas, NM is located about 45 minutes from the New Mexico state capital of Santa Fe. There are a combined total of 11 men's and women's sports with about 400 student athletes on campus. The assistant athletic trainer will need to have the following minimum qualifications: a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution, current BOC certification, eligible for NM state athletic training licensure, professional rescuer CPR, and 2-3 years of experience. Salary is dependent upon experience. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

1. Prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation (mental and physical) of athletic injured and illnesses under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and Head Team Physician.
2.Provide medical coverage for all assigned sport practices, home and away contests (requires international travel).
3. Communicate the status of injured athletes to the Head Athletic Trainer, Head Team Physician and respective coaches, acting as a liaison between physicians, athletes, coaches and the Head Athletic Trainer/Head Team Physician.
4. Communicate and coordinate with respective coaches, current health care standards and implementation of medical policies and procedures.
5. Assist in recruitment of prospective students workers.
6. Assist in the supervision of students workers in educational and clinical settings.
7. Maintain current medical records of each athlete, keeping them up to date and containing all pertinent information.
8. Assist in inventory storage, distribution and maintenance of supplies
9. Assist in documentation of insurance claims, collection of bills from student-athletes, and pre-certification of various medical procedures/tests.
10. Maintain certification in the National Athletic Trainers Association by obtaining continuing education credits through the attendance and participation in clinics, seminars, meetings and workshops.
11. Maintain state licensure with the NM state licensing board and obtaining continuing education credits through attendance and participation in clinics, seminars, meetings and workshops.
Minimum Requirements include a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution, current BOC certification, eligible for NM state licensure, CPR, and 2-3 years of experience. Salary is dependent upon experience.
