Therma-Stor LLC, located in Madison, Wisconsin, was established in 1977 as a manufacturer of residential and professional grade climate control equipment, water heaters, and flood restoration tools.
Working under the direction of the Director of Quality or her designate, this position is responsible for Customer Facing issues that arise during the lifecycle of dehumidifier production. The Quality Technician works closely with internal areas such as engineering, operations, and supply chain to implement a robust manufacturing process and limit daily disruptions in support of production schedule attainment. The Quality Technician supports a Culture of Lean and 5s by acting as a first responder to issues which may impact productivity. The role contributes to the attainment of the following Quality Key Performance Indicator targets on an annual basis: First Pass Yield, Warranty Costs, and Scrap Costs.
- Assess (Sort): Gather background facts and assess risk related to production concerns, involving cross-functional teams as appropriate.
- Stabilize (Set in Order): Investigate factors leading to quality concerns to determine immediate containment, interim process, or correction, to support continuation of production and coordinate cross-functional communication of required actions. Issue Quality Alerts and organize Quality Standowns as required.
- Validate (Shine): Oversee corrections, rework, or temporary process changes to insure that issues have been appropriately addressed and eliminated.
- Standardize (Standardize): Update necessary documentation to support long term corrective actions, including but not limited to, Inspection Sheets, Work Instructions, Drawings, and Bill of Materials.
- Monitor (Sustain): Complete In Process Inspection to track defects by line, report monthly metrics for line performance against known issues, update lessons learned and supporting control plans and pFMEA’s with ending results. Completion of regular product audits as assigned.
- Receiving Inspection as may be required to support correct components have been delivered to the line.
- Participate in A3 teams to support root cause analysis of actionable failure modes.
- Cross-train others in quality and operations daily processes, of rework/rebadge, deviations, engineering change requests, defect tracking, non-conforming product, quality alerts and quality standowns.
- Lead continuous improvement projects based on employee submitted suggestions or in response to customer warranty concerns.
- Data Entry as may be required to support objective evidence of component or assembly conformance.
- Compliance with all company rules and policies.
- Safety: must comply with all training, PPE requirements and champion a safe workplace.
- 2+ years on the job experience focused on plant assembly line quality control, process control, and problem solving or measurement analysis.
- Ability to read drawings and perform basic measurements with calipers or ruler. Use of Optical Comparators a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills to include: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Familiarity with Mini-tab a plus
- Additional training and education in the areas of Six Sigma or manufacturing process improvement preferred.
- Associates Degree in Quality Assurance, Statistics, or Process Improvement preferred or equivalent experience
