Job Description

A key goal of Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s administration has been to improve the quality of life in Cleveland’s neighborhoods. Reaching that goal requires a comprehensive approach to create greater opportunities for residents, especially our youth and young adults.

That is why the City of Cleveland has changed the philosophy of its recreation centers to more holistically serve families. Each of the City’s 22 Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Centers (NRRC) are poised to expand services and add staff equipped to provide a more robust approach to human services programming, trauma-informed care, and crisis management.

Under the direction of the Chief of Prevention, Intervention and Opportunity for Youth and Young Adults (PIOYYA). The Social Services Director will work hand in hand with the Chief and the Director of Public Works in all efforts related to the transformation of the recreation centers into trauma-informed care NRRCs. 

  • Review and revise policies, practices, and procedures to ensure they are based on trauma-informed care principles
  • Develop processes and protocols for case management, record-keeping, data management, referral tracking, and ongoing communication strategies
  • Review and enhance the professional development program of the NRRC staff, ensuring communications to the staff on the transformation process, roles, and responsibilities
  • Provide leadership at regular staff meetings and representation of the project to City Leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social service or related field.  Master’s Degree strongly preferred
  • 8 years of professional experience in human services, social work, or a related field
  • Significant progressively responsible management or executive experience in social services or similar human services agency
  • Sophisticated knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care approach and principals
  • LISW-S or LPCC-S Preferred
