POSITION SUMMARY

The Account Manager, Strategic Partnerships is responsible for developing and growing relationships with their assigned USA Lacrosse (USAL) corporate partnership accounts to ensure they receive return on their investment, are satisfied with their relationship with USAL, and renew annually allowing USAL to grow their revenue.  This role will oversee the planning, management, execution, and growth of revenue for USAL through their corporate partnership accounts. 

 

In addition, this role provides support to the SR Manager, Strategic Partnerships in the general management of high-level corporate partner relationships including, but not limited to, the execution and activation of partnerships, tracking and fulfillment of partner deliverables, supporting the partnership sales process, and special projects to assist the department.   

 

A Typical Day Looks Like…

 

Strategic Partnership Management

 

  • Assists in creating the strategic vision for partnership relationships and identifies new partnership account relationship opportunities and pursues those in collaboration with the SR Manager, Strategic Partnerships.   
  • Leads the day-to-day management, activation, and development of USAL and U.S. National Teams Official and Supporting partners (approximately five (5) to seven (7) accounts). 
  • Oversees the management of an additional five (5) to ten (10) platform-focused/event sponsors, including, but not limited to account activation and tracking and ensuring completion of required deliverables. 
  • Develops a strong understanding for each account’s business needs, including their industry, their competition, business challenges/opportunities, marketing goals, budget processes, and other relevant information to ensure a successful relationship.  This includes providing ideas and recommendations that align with the organization's goals and objectives to help grow their business using USAL's assets and resources.
  • Within the partnership accounts, develops and maintains business relationships with individuals at all levels of organization (i.e., primary contact all the way to C Level Executives) through continual communication and warm contacts (i.e., regular phone calls/emails). 
  • Manages and maintains an organized tracking system for all USAL strategic partner deliverables, ensuring each element of partner contracts are successfully fulfilled for success of the relationship.
  • Manages and tracks all account history, relationship details, and partnership activation details.
  • Provides support to the SR Manager, Strategic Partnerships to manage everyday aspects of sponsor account management and activation, including oversight and administration of additional accounts when necessary.
  • Provides thorough monthly reports, including proof of performance, to all partner accounts including measurement, demonstrated ROI and ROO, and tell the story of the partnership through images, data, and successes of the partnership in action throughout the year.
  • Leads and manages all initiatives in the renewal process for assigned accounts, including but not limited to, developing a strategic plan, leading meetings, discussions, negotiations, creating detailed upsell opportunities, and revising elements of the partnership for the overall business philosophy for a successful relationship and ROI to the partner account.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on upsell opportunities as they present themselves.  This includes “outside of the box” thinking with partnership account contacts to identify potential win-win opportunities for added revenue for each party. 
  • Ensures all assigned strategic partnership accounts have a positive relationship by managing daily, weekly, and monthly activities to ensure partnership accounts are tracking for renewal through experiencing worthwhile ROI.  

 

Event Management, Brand Awareness/Growth, & Marketing

 

  • Leads the coordination with the USAL Events team for partnership activation layouts, clinic involvement, and hospitality/appreciation events for USAL events (i.e., pre-event receptions) and the USA Lacrosse Convention (i.e., USAL Convention Partner Reception). 
  • Manages and tracks department finances and acts as the lead liaison for the department with the finance team.  This includes maintaining the overall department budget and ensuring invoices are accurately attributed/coded and corporate partner payments are received by partnership accounts. 
  • Collaborates with internal USAL groups on brand positioning and representation of USAL marks for all partnership programs.  This includes creating strategies to further leverage all partner relationships to build and extend the USAL brand and increase benefits members receive through our partnerships to drive membership.
  • Partners with the Director, Development on developing and implementing new business initiatives including partnership proposals, contract development, and account implementation as necessary. 
  • Generates ideas for new sponsorship opportunities including, but not limited to, in-event elements, retail promotions, member communication, digital features, social media, signage, and other programs to add member benefits and generate revenue.
  • Supports the partnerships department with administrative needs including, but not limited to, document preparation (i.e., budgets), creating and documenting project plans, providing updates, activation fulfillment, expense reports, Board of Directors (BOD) reports, and other communications. 
  • Attends internal and external meetings and special events to provide representation and support as required.

 

Communication

 

  • Serves as the liaison for the partnership team and interacts with internal departments, external constituencies, and partners to maintain open lines of communication and facilitate collaboration and support of partnership initiatives.    
  • Receives, reviews, and responds to correspondence (i.e., phone calls, emails, etc.) from the general public, members, and volunteers with good judgment, thorough information, and professionalism.
  • Develops PowerPoint and other presentation materials to represent USAL and associated partnerships to show others why they should partner with our organization for a win-win for continued revenue growth and brand recognition.   

 

Reporting & Research

 

  • Provides support to the partnership and advertising team through fact-finding for new business opportunities/prospects, completes industry specific research, inventory development, and evaluates new sponsorship activation trends.   
  • Continually conducts research on the market to learn and implement industry best-practices to keep USAL on the cutting edge of strategic partnerships to grow revenue and provide valuable resources and relationships for our partners and members. 

 

Is This You…

 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, business administration or similar field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in account management, marketing, or sales.  Experience in a sports environment, preferable marketing, a plus.
  • Previous work experience in a non-profit, association, or other member-based organization a plus. 
  • Proven experience building relationships and delivering based on agreed upon expectations to ensure appropriate ROI for vendor/partner relationships.    
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and meet required deadlines, and exceptional attention to detail and follow up skills. 
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and understand how to handle confidential information when necessary.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a hybrid (in-office/remote work) environment in a fast-paced, "roll up your sleeves" environment that delivers results. 
  • Strong work ethic with a strategic and proactive approach. 
  • Ability to present a professional and assertive persona to negotiate, build relationships, and establish credibility and trust. 
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop, grow, and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, inclusion, and equity in mind.

Expected Hours of Work

USA Lacrosse's core business hours are 8am to 8pm, Monday through Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday.  This position is generally expected to work from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.  There may be occasional requirements for longer hours during the week and/or on weekends based on events and other business needs. 

 

Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary up to 15% and is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
