Summary:
Head Baseball Coach develops, manages, implements, and advances competitive intercollegiate and baseball program within the philosophy, objectives, policies, and guidelines of NCAA Division II, the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and Department of Athletics at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). The Head Baseball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach and instruct advanced level skills, techniques, and game strategies inherent in the highest level of competitive play; developing UIS baseball student-athletes to successful competitive achievements.
  • Recruit highly successful baseball student-athletes who are both physically and academically talented, who represent UIS and Department of Athletics with good character, and who strive to graduate from UIS.
  • Responsible for scheduling, organizing, and conducting practices/competitions including team travel.
  • Responsible for administration and strategic vision for success of UIS baseball programs including budgeting, strategic planning, organizing, and reconciling baseball accounts to ensure expenditures compliant with budget.
  • Responsible for fundraising, marketing, promotion, and alumni and community engagement of UIS baseball and Department of Athletics at UIS.
  • Identify, manage, mentor, and oversee ethical and talented UIS baseball assistant coaching staff.
  • Collaborate with athletic training staff, academic support personnel, strength and conditioning, compliance staff, and other campus personnel to enhance and support UIS baseball student-athlete experience.
  • Accountable for compliance with all NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Valley Conference rules; including submission of all compliance forms, adherence to all compliance policies and procedures, and attendance of mandatory NCAA rules education sessions.
  • Monitor academic performance and progress of baseball student-athletes.
  • Coordinate baseball camps/clinics in an effort to increase local and regional exposure of UIS and UIS baseball.
  • Attend GLVC, UIS, and Department of Athletics meetings as scheduled; hold office hours in the office in the Recreation and Athletic Center; complete required NCAA and UIS training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the departments strategic goals and on-going initiatives.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree required.
    Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years coaching experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Preferences will be given to candidates with advanced degrees, a tenure of successful collegiate coaching experience with a proven record of recruiting talented and academically qualified student-athletes. Desired qualifications include practice and game plan development, academic monitoring and development of student-athletes, fundraising and public relations, and strong ethical integrity. The successful candidate must be committed to working and teaching within an environment that embraces the development of student-athletes around their academic achievement, diversity, equity, inclusion, health and welfare.
