Who We're Looking For:

The Director of Goalkeeping will lead and manage all goalkeeper training and development across The St. James Football Club, overseeing programs in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. You'll work with goalkeepers of all ages and levels, mentor staff coaches, and build a program that develops top-tier talent in alignment with our MLS Next and Girls Academy platforms.

This is a full-time role with on-field coaching and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Staff Management

Lead the overall design and execution of the Goalkeeping Program.

Develop and manage goalkeeper staff, training plans, and seasonal programming.

Oversee program budgets aligned with club objectives.

Goalkeeper Training

Design and lead technical training sessions for all age groups and levels.

Implement position-specific instruction (e.g., shot-stopping, distribution, crosses, set pieces).

Run goalkeeper training for MLS Next, Girls Academy, and pre-academy players.

Individual & Group Coaching

Conduct 1-on-1 sessions and track individual development plans.

Lead group training environments that are positive, challenging, and inclusive.

Teach tactical elements such as positioning, communication, and game awareness.

Talent ID & Scouting

Assist with identifying and recommending top goalkeeper prospects for higher-level play.

Communication & Coordination

Maintain open communication with players, families, and technical staff.

Collaborate with team coaches to support player development within team structures.

Professional Development

Stay current on best practices and emerging trends in goalkeeper training.

Attend coaching clinics and workshops as part of ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

USSF B License, USSF Goalkeeping License, or NSCAA GK Diploma (or international equivalent).

Prior experience as a Director or Lead Goalkeeping Coach (youth or amateur levels preferred).

Deep understanding of goalkeeper development, techniques, and tactics.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Passion for mentoring young athletes and creating an inclusive, positive environment.

Experience with video analysis software is a plus.

Must pass all background checks and meet coaching credential requirements.

Position Details

Full-Time, W-2 role with benefits (healthcare and retirement programs).

Base Salary: $50,000/year + performance-based incentives.

Work includes evenings and weekends; some administrative daytime hours required.

Complimentary membership to The St. James facilities.

Support for continued coaching education.

Additional Compensation Opportunities

Camps: up to $1,000/week

USL-Y Coaching: $2,500/team

Futsal Academy: $3,000/team

Clinics & Private/Semi-Private Training: $75-$200/hour
