General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is currently seeking a Clinical Dietitian to join a new primary care location in Chevy Chase, MD. In this position, you will educate, support, and advocate for patients' nutritional needs by providing one-on-one nutrition counseling to outpatient clients. Promoting and supporting self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes. This position will provide nutrition counseling, diabetes education, weight management strategies, meal planning and overall health wellness.

Primary Duties:

  • Conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process(NCP), including nutrition focused physical exams.
  • Develops and implements Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to address the nutrition diagnosis, evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of MNT interventions. Modifies the plan as needed to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Documents MNT in the medical record using the Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring, Evaluation(ADIME) format.
  • Calculates nutrition requirements and necessary diet restrictions or food and drug interactions, tailoring the diet prescription to each individual patient.
  • Collaborates with clinicians and Medical Director in developing patient-centered plans. Confers with Physician(s) and/or Nurse Practitioner(s) concerning assigned patients.
  • Completes timely documentation in the patient's medical record and timely coding of services to optimize patient safety and assure compliant billing practices are followed.
  • May provide distance visits by video conferencing, telephone, text, and email, as appropriate by office protocols.
  • Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach and marketing efforts as appropriate per office protocols.
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition/dietetics required.
  • Registered Dietitian in state of Maryland required.
  • RDN/RD credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration(CDR) required.
  • 1-2 years Clinical outpatient or inpatient settings required.
