Summary:
The position includes the following:
- The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer (Herd) and collaborates with the Head Athletic Trainer (Bucks) to implement comprehensive athletic training services to Wisconsin Herd players
- Provides support for typical game day duties, preventative therapy, evaluation and treatment of acute injuries under supervision
- Assists with Athletic Training duties with the Milwaukee Bucks during summer and Summer League Tournament as needed
- Supports athletic training administrative duties and documentation
- Functions as an effective multidisciplinary team member to provide high performance services to athletes and coaches
- Local travel is required
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for executing all the primary duties listed below:
- Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, conduct athletic training procedures on players including preventative treatment, taping, bandaging and protective equipment application
- Assist with treatment of acute injuries during training and game situations
- If dual credentialed as a physical therapist, assist with treatment and rehabilitation of player injuries when they occur
- Support game day operations including statistical data collection and acute medical care preparation
- Assist the strength and conditioning staff with team warm-up and preparation prior to practice and games
- Support physical assessments and screening of players within established department guidelines and scientific principles
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive electronic records of treatments and player injuries using the team's electronic medical records software
- Assist with communication on athlete progress to coaches and other service providers
- Support regular inventory management of medical supplies and assist with ordering
- Assist with planning and coordination of pre- and post-season physicals
- Travel with the team to provide services at away games as assigned
- Support the Head Athletic Trainer with administrative tasks and special projects
- Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities
Other key relationships: Head Athletic Trainer (Bucks), VP Performance (Bucks), Head Strength Coach (Herd), Coaching staff, Dietitian, Sport Psychologist, Players, General Manager (Herd)
Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills with coaches, athletes, other staff and administrators
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. Physical Therapy degree is preferred but not required
- At least 1-2 years of experience as an athletic trainer, preferably with a collegiate or professional sports team
- Computer competence in electronic medical records and data analysis programs
- Practical experience in athletic training skills and ability to work effectively as part of the High Performance Team
- Ability to work under supervision while demonstrating initiative and professional judgment
- Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
- Current license to practice as an athletic trainer (and physical therapist if dual credentialed)
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced professional sports environment
40 hour week base schedule, but will be expected to work outside of normal working hours to ensure all responsibilities are met. This may equate to 60-80+ hour weeks during the season.
Must be able to travel extensively throughout the G League season.
Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting and moving equipment, and providing hands-on treatment to athletes.
