PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring salary $28.88 - $36.11/hour

You'll be key in creating high-quality playing conditions for the public by assisting with hiring and training staff, planning vital projects , and helping to manage budgets and turf programs. If you bring 5+ years of progressively responsible golf course maintenance experience, possess strong supervisory and problem-solving skills, and are ready to obtain specific Colorado pesticide applicator and CDL licenses within 12 months, you might just be the perfect fit to help us make the customer experience the priority . Oversees and participates in all golf course maintenance operations at the assigned golf course.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs administrative functions associated with all maintenance activities of a city golf course.
- Develops and implements maintenance programs including routine maintenance, irrigation schedules, pesticide and fertilizer application schedules, new course construction and renovation projects.
- Trains assigned personnel in methods of chemical applications, irrigation system repair and operation, and maintenance equipment.
- Responsible for selection, hiring, training, evaluating, and discipline for all seasonal maintenance staff.
- Assists Superintendent with selection and evaluation process for regular positions.
- Assists and implements annual maintenance budget.
- Implements City rules and regulations and environmental rules and regulations.
- Maintains public relations with customers and citizens, staff, and/or golfers.
- Arranges safety training for all maintenance workers.
- Assigns City snow removal duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
- At least 4 years progressively responsible golf course maintenance experience.
Knowledge:
- Expert knowledge of the theories, principles, methods, and practices of golf course maintenance programs that includes fertilizers, pest control, irrigation, hazards, and safety practices common to golf course maintenance operations; working knowledge of USGA rules and regulations; and basic knowledge of municipal budgeting process.
Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and elected officials.
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and fulfill goals and objectives.
- Direct and effectively supervise a large diverse workforce.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record.
- CDL B license required within 12 months.
- Must obtain Pesticide License, Turf Category 206--within 12 months.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds.
- Occasional walking and standing.
- Vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents.
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
- Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; may require frequent pulling, pushing, bending, and stooping; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens; vision sufficient to read computer screens, reports, and related department documents; dexterity to operate computer keyboards and other related office equipment; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; and hand/eye and hand/foot coordination to operate mowing and other motorized equipment.
Work Environment:
- Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
Equipment Used:
- Operates all hand and power tools and equipment common to golf course construction and maintenance; operates vehicles such as dump trucks and tractors.
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
