POSITION: Varsity Head Wrestling Coach
LOCATION: Manassas Park High School
SALARY/HOURS:
Stipend: $5,000 (one-time)
Hours: As determined in conjunction with the Athletic Director
JOB SUMMARY
The Varsity Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and managing the high school wrestling program. This includes overseeing practices, competitions, and athlete development while fostering a positive team environment. The coach is expected to promote sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal growth in student-athletes, while ensuring the program adheres to school, district, and VHSL regulations. This position reports to the Director of Athletics/Director of Student Activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, and safety practices
Previous coaching experience in wrestling preferred
CPR/First Aid and VHSL coaching certification (or ability to obtain) required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership
Organizes interest meetings and promotes participation in the wrestling program
Evaluates student-athletes and establishes appropriate weight classes and training plans
Develops and implements structured practice plans to support skill development and conditioning
Schedules and supervises practices, matches, and tournaments in collaboration with the Athletic Director
Provides leadership and guidance to assistant coaches
Athlete Development & Supervision
Instructs wrestlers in techniques, strategies, and rules of the sport
Promotes safety in all wrestling activities, including weight management and hydration
Ensures student-athletes demonstrate positive behavior and respect at all times
Monitors academic progress and eligibility in accordance with school and VHSL standards
Communication & Compliance
Maintains ongoing communication with parents/guardians as needed
Follows all VHSL, regional, district, and MPCS policies and procedures
Promotes the program within the school and local community
Attends and participates in events such as parent nights, banquets, and recognition ceremonies
Safety & Logistics
Maintains and submits required records, including eligibility, emergency contacts, and medical forms
Oversees the care, maintenance, and inventory of wrestling equipment and mats
Provides adequate supervision before, during, and after practices and events
Ensures the availability of first aid supplies and adheres to injury protocols
Professional Responsibilities
Models sportsmanship and professionalism for athletes and peers
Attends required professional development and coaches' meetings
Maintains records of team and individual performance for program evaluation
Adheres to the School Activity Funds Manual and procedures for financial transactions
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically demonstrate wrestling techniques, conduct practices, and manage competitions. Requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, lift, and perform other movements typical of athletic coaching and supervision.
