Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer - Medical Office I supports the clinical operations within an orthopedic medical practice by providing direct patient care and assisting with the coordination of treatment plans under the supervision of orthopedic physicians and advanced practice providers. This entry-level position bridges the gap between injury and recovery, offering expertise in musculoskeletal assessment, rehabilitation strategies, and injury prevention. The role requires a strong foundation in sports medicine, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. The Athletic Trainer also contributes to patient education, post-operative care, and clinical documentation, playing a key role in enhancing the patient experience and improving outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Assist orthopedic providers in clinical assessments, including the evaluation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of individualized treatment plans, rehabilitation protocols, and exercise regimens.
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures; obtain and record vital signs, patient histories, and functional assessments.
  • Educate patients and families on injury prevention, recovery expectations, home exercise programs, and proper use of orthopedic equipment (e.g., braces, splints, crutches).
  • Apply durable medical equipment (DME) and assist with casting and splinting as directed by the provider.
  • Document clinical findings, progress notes, and patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Facilitate pre- and post-operative education and care coordination for orthopedic surgeries.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure proper sterilization and stocking of orthopedic supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and compliance with clinical protocols and safety regulations.

Requirements:
  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree. Continuing education in the field.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Certification by The Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (NATA-BOC). Licensure with the State of Colorado (DORA) as an Athletic Trainer (LAT). Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year of experience in an orthopedic setting providing direct patient care. Experience working in conjunction with orthopedic/sports medicine physicians. Clinical experience strongly preferred
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.
