Job Description

The Opportunity

The 6th Grade Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for supporting and also leading various aspects of the sports program such as providing supervision of students during all aspects of the program, serving as a positive role model to the student-athletes, and represents KIPP Columbus in an excellent and equitable manner, upgrading his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, and observations consultation.

The 6th Grade Head Volleyball Coach is required to abide by all OHSAA rules and regulations as well as the character and learning environment standards of KIPP Columbus.

Key responsibilities include the following:

Coaching

  • Preparing and maintaining training equipment and facilities.
  • Assisting with the recruitment of students for the program.
  • Monitoring and evaluating team performance.
  • Maintaining records of students, training sessions, games, performance statistics, and equipment.
  • Facilitating and supervising training sessions and individual workouts.
  • Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the head coach.
  • Building a positive team environment

Student Development

  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
  • Instruct and advise students on regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Align with and maintain KIPPs learning environment standards for behavior and conduct during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property

Student Safety and Operations

  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Accompany and supervise student-athletes during competitions on out-of-town trips.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation

General

  • Doing whatever it takes for our students and team to be successful
  • Participating in staff meetings, professional development, as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Athletics and Wellness Coordinator or Head Coach

The following are required of all applicants:

  • Minimum of one year of coaching experience with middle and/or high school students
  • Possess a valid Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit
  • Complete all required Health and Safety training and certifications to be eligible to coach in Ohio

Compensation and Benefits

At KIPP Columbus we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive with our compensation and benefits offered to our team. Our teacher salary scale is linked here , with a starting salary of $50,000 for a teacher with 1 year of teaching experience. We also offer appreciation stipends for teachers that have taught with KIPP Columbus for 5 and 10 years.

KIPP Columbus offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances as well various voluntary benefits (such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and participation in the Ohio SERS/STRS retirement plan.)
