The 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports to the Superintendent and works under that positions direction to help manage all aspects of golf course maintenance and other landscaping facilities on property. The role supports a positive experience for members and guests while providing an opportunity to grow knowledge of golf club operations.
- Assists in carrying out golf maintenance department policies.
- Supports delegation of work assignments and evaluation of job performance in the golf course maintenance department.
- Requires knowledge of agronomics, fertilizer and chemical applications, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.
- Able to communicate politely and professionally with guests, members, customers, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Enrolled in a degree in Golf Management or Agronomy, or 5 or more years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Drivers license, current and valid.
- Necessary commitment to work varied and flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled golf club events, as needed.
- Knowledge of computer programs including JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook is a plus.
- Work under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and assist with accountability for the golf maintenance budget.
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
- Monitor golf maintenance operations, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety, and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise maintenance of the golf courses.
- Oversee completion of staff work assignments and assist with field decisions while performing labor as needed.
- Perform hands-on labor on the golf course to demonstrate tasks, assist staff, and ensure timely completion of work.
- Enforce safe working conditions and instruct staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
- Supervise special projects and labor crews as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Report golf course conditions and disciplinary problems to the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Assist with staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
- Communicate verbally or by email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
- Coordinate equipment and tool maintenance issues with the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
- Administer department procedures in accordance with corporate protocol, employee handbook, and company policies.
- Assist in developing written operating policies, preventative maintenance plans, fertilizer schedules, and course condition schedules.
- Help protect golf facility assets, including facilities and equipment.
