POSITION TITLE: Assistant Varsity Field Hockey Coach
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Annually for the duration of the sport season in which s/he is coaching. Salary as determined by the Master Contract.
CLASSIFICATION: Fair Labor Standards Act Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Each coach is responsible for managing all of the specific duties related to the sport s/he coaches. In cooperation with the Athletic Director, the coach will submit a written report on the sport coached at the end of each season. This report will summarize the activities of the season, including the names of the participants, games played, results, and recommendations for the future.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in writing at the end of each season by the Athletic Director in
consultation with the Head Coach and/or school administration, if applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in the sport to be coached.
Excellent interpersonal skills and high expectations for teamwork, exemplary behavior, and responsibility.
Ability to mentor and lead young people by example.
Commitment to the district's mission and Strategic Plan.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Secure from each student prior to start of season: proof of insurance, proof of physical, and parental/guardian permission forms. All forms must be filed in the coach's notebook, and physical forms copied/forwarded to the school nurse.
Complete the checklist of all pre-season, season, and post-season activities completed.
Submit a team roster to Athletic Director prior to season: including student names, grades, heights, weights, positions, uniform numbers, managers and captains.
Communicate directly with the Head Coach or Athletic Director regarding an annual plan of action for practice sessions, game plans, inventories, and any required reports/paperwork.
Submit to the Athletic Director and players copies of any specific rules and regulations governing this particular sport.
Assume responsibility for the conduct of players at all times including before, during, and after practice sessions as well as before, during, and after home games or trips/games away.
Communicate daily with the Athletic Director regarding schedule changes, travel plans, and/or scheduled practices.
Design a checklist for team managers with a list of specific duties to be completed for practice, home, or away games.
Assign lockers, check the cleanliness of the locker room, and keep a lock/locker inventory.
Ensure that all players are properly and safely equipped for the type of sports activity they are playing.
Properly store all equipment including uniforms, sport supplies, athletic training supplies, and a medicine kit.
Refer ALL scheduling requests, including practices and games to the Athletic Director.
Attend seasonal staff meetings called by the Head Coach and/or the Athletic Director.
Submit an annual written self evaluation of your own performance as a coach citing both strengths and goals for the future.
Assume any other responsibilities assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
