Randolph Public Schools Athletics Department is seeking a Boys Varsity Head Basketball Coach.
Head Varsity Coach - Roles and Responsibilities
The Head Varsity Coach at Randolph High School is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the athletic program in alignment with the standards and expectations established by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), Randolph Public Schools, and the Randolph High School Athletic Department.
Program Leadership and Student DevelopmentLead student-athletes in achieving academic, athletic, and personal success. Foster a culture of accountability, discipline, sportsmanship, inclusion, and respect.Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes at all times. Promote leadership development, character education, citizenship, and healthy decision-making. Organize and support character-building opportunities including community service projects, leadership activities, and team-building events. Establish and communicate clear expectations for conduct, attendance, academics, training, and participation throughout the calendar year.Support the social-emotional well-being and safety of all student-athletes.
Coaching and Competitive ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize, and supervise all team practices, competitions, meetings, and offseason activities. Develop safe, age-appropriate, competitive, and skill-focused practice plans consistent with NFHS coaching principles and sport-specific safety guidelines. Teach fundamental and advanced sport-specific skills, strategies, and techniques. Provide timely, constructive, and effective feedback to student-athletes regarding performance and improvement. Develop competitive game plans and make appropriate in-game adjustments. Scout opponents and analyze tendencies to assist in game preparation and strategy development. Evaluate team and individual performance using film study, data analysis, and observation.Promote proper conditioning, injury prevention, hydration, nutrition, and recovery practices.
Program AdministrationOversee and coordinate all levels of the athletic program, including varsity, junior varsity, freshman, and middle school feeder programs where applicable. Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and volunteers in collaboration with the Athletic Director. Maintain accurate team records, eligibility documentation, equipment inventories, schedules, and communication logs. Attend all required department meetings, league meetings, MIAA meetings, rules clinics, and professional development sessions. Ensure compliance with all Randolph High School, league, MIAA, and NFHS policies, rules, and regulations. Maintain current required certifications including: MIAA Coaching Education, CPR Certification, First Aid Certification Concussion Education
RequirementsEffectively communicate with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, faculty, athletic trainers, officials, transportation staff, and community members. Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents, officials, volunteers, spectators, and opposing programs. Communicate regularly with athletic trainers regarding injuries, medical clearance, rehabilitation progress, and student-athlete participation status. Represent Randolph High School and the athletic department in a professional manner at all times, including on social media and in public settings. Support multi-sport participation and collaborate positively with other athletic programs and school organizations.
Safety and CompliancePrioritize the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of student-athletes. Enforce all safety standards, emergency procedures, and concussion protocols established by the MIAA, NFHS, and Randolph Public Schools. Ensure proper supervision of athletes before, during, and after practices, contests, transportation, and team events.Maintain appropriate care, inspection, and safe use of athletic equipment and facilities. Report injuries, incidents, disciplinary concerns, and violations of policy promptly to the Athletic Director and administration.
Fundraising and Program PromotionOrganize, support, and attend fundraising events that positively support the athletic program.Promote the program within the school and community in a manner consistent with Randolph High School values and MIAA sportsmanship standards. Assist with youth development initiatives, clinics, camps, and community engagement opportunities that strengthen the long-term success of the program.
