Reports to: Building Principal/Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
Summary: The job of a high school CTE teacher is to implement industry-based instruction and incorporate all aligned essential standards when preparing to teach and instruct students, to promote student achievement, to provide guidance, counsel, supervision and discipline to students, and to assess and evaluate performance and progress to enhance effective learning. The job of an athletic trainer is to provide and supervise practicum opportunities for students while caring for the athletes during practices and events. Stipends are applied to evening events for each sport season.
Essential Functions: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Teach students the skills and attitudes to be successful in the various career paths related to Sports Medicine and other strands of Health Science in accordance with state statutes, district policy and adopted curriculum, to help prepare students for lifelong learning and success in the world of work.
- Foster an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students; plans an inclusive instructional program designed to meet individual student needs and whole groups.
- Create a positive classroom atmosphere to encourage and motivate students to learn essential skills, develop essential attitudes and experience.
- Plan and prepare well-organized series of learning opportunities and activities; establish objectives to ensure mastery of district outcomes.
- Assess and evaluate student achievement; adapt and modify techniques and material for effectiveness as necessary for student progress and success; seek and recommend special assistance as appropriate.
- Evaluate and record student progress; prepare progress and grade reports as required; administers tests as necessary.
- Attend or participate in all required staff meetings, committees, team building, field trips and other activities (may include overnight stay) deemed necessary by the district, building administration, , in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.
- Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
- Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to keep confidentiality and show initiative when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Building Principal, or Superintendent.
- In conjunction with school district personnel, develop the athletic trainer program for the school.
- Provide athletic trainer coverage at home and away interscholastic athletic events.
- Develop a comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans in conjunction with the school district.
- Initiate and administer first aid to athletes in accordance with specific school guidelines and state law.
- Establish a working relationship with community physicians and school nursing staff.
- Maintain adequate records on all injuries and rehabilitative procedures.
- Interact with coaches, parents, medical staff and athletes.
- Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school regulations and state law.
- Demonstrates a clear knowledge and understanding of rehabilitation and treatment techniques of the injured athlete.
- Demonstrates self-motivation and professional integrity. Uses work time appropriately to meet program goals.
- Demonstrates good judgement and independent problem-solving skills in a variety of student related and school staff, students and families.
- Maintains a high level of professional expertise and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.
- Conduct education forums for the community related to injury prevention and conditioning.
Qualifications:
- Currently have or will have received by the start date a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s) for grades 9-12, is preferred however, a conditional CTE Teaching Certificate is possible.
- Currently hold Certified Athletic Trainer Certification (NATA-BOC), required.
- Must hold Washing State Athletic Training License.
- Currently hold or will hold a Master's Degree
- Currently have or will have earned by the start date a valid BLS certification, required. Being a First Aid/CPR Certified Instructor is preferred.
- Obtain clearance from Washington State Patrol and FBI background check
- Extensive knowledge of Sports Medicine and other Health Science curricular areas including but not limited to: Sports Med 1, Sports Med 2, Sports Med Practicum Supervision, and Health Occupations.
- Knowledge (experience desired) in providing active leadership, guidance and supervision for students in CRHS WCTSMA Chapter and the dept. practicum experiences after school hours.
- Use of a variety of instructional strategies to provide equity and excellence with students of all ability levels in a diverse student population.
- Incorporate a wide variety of industry skills and competencies into daily lessons and course framework development for students having a wide range of achievement.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications while working cooperatively with other teachers in developing and sharing curriculum strategies.
- Provide active leadership and direction for Health Science Advisory Committee and the development of the CRHS Health Science & Sports Med. Department five-year plan.
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Salary Range:
$58,467.00-$110,197.00
