Position Title: Groundskeeper - Recreation Sports and Facilities Job Category: University Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Groundskeeper Job Duties: Attention: The Department of Recreation Sports and Facilities at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Groundskeeper (FP026). Job Details: This position reports to the Grounds Crew Lead for assigned duties within the Recreation/Athletic Field/Stadium Complex. The Groundskeeper performs daily grounds functions and field preparation as assigned by the Grounds Crew Lead in the entire Recreation/Athletic Complex in compliance with University grounds standards. This position also performs indoor set-ups and take-downs of athletic and special events in the Williams Center/Kachel Fieldhouse complex as assigned by the Grounds Crew Lead. Other duties include housekeeping and limited maintenance of the Student Athletic Complex, Stadium Service Building and Stadium Press Box Building. The Groundskeeper performs Grounds Crew Lead functions in the absence of the Grounds Crew Lead (i.e. vacations, etc.) and will also perform any and all related work as assigned by Supervisor(s). Position work schedule may change, including evening, weekend and holiday hours, based upon operational need for events and games. Key Job Responsibilities: A. Perform all grounds functions and field preparation as assigned by the Grounds Crew Lead A1. Edge, aerate, seed and sod lawns. A2. Prune trees and shrubs. A3. Perform mowing, seeding, planting, fertilizing, cultivating, aerating, top dressing, pruning, trimming, and watering of turf and shrubbery. A4. Conduct pest control as needed on all field areas. A5. Assist in trash removal on all athletic/recreation fields and Williams Center Tennis Courts. A6. Mow and trim grass with self-propelled equipment. A7. Line and prepare athletic and recreation fields for practices and events as scheduled. A8. Perform indoor set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, bleachers, risers, and other equipment for athletic and special events in the Williams Center/Kachel Fieldhouse complex. A9. Perform game day duties as assigned by Grounds Crew Lead. A10. Direct, train, and supervise all student workers that have been assigned by Grounds Crew Lead in custodial and grounds functions. B. Perform all maintenance and housekeeping assignments to the Student Athletic Complex, Stadium Service Building, Stadium Press Box, Track/Soccer Building, and Coulthart Pavilion B1. Clean and sanitize all showers, toilets, and urinals and re-stock paper items daily. B2. Mop floors and shower area during seasonal usage on a daily basis. B3. Empty all trash and recycling containers. B4. Vacuum all carpet areas (hallways, offices, training rooms, locker rooms, classrooms, etc.). B5. Scrub and sanitize all sinks, fixtures, floors, walls, doors, stairwells, railings, and food service areas. B6. Replace light bulbs and clean light fixtures. B7. Re-stock all housekeeping supplies to all areas as needed. B8. Strip floors, apply new floor finish, and extract carpets as needed. B9. Clean air vents and dust all areas as needed. B10. Weekly inspect for proper operation of all water fountains, showers, urinals, etc. B11. Pick-up/deliver laundry, for Football, Softball, and Baseball each day during their competition season. B12. Perform routine special maintenance and moving of athletic/recreation equipment. B13. Perform limited maintenance to facilities as needed (i.e.- painting, scrubbing walls, windows washing, etc.). C. Perform a variety of general labor and groundskeeping duties C1. Remove snow and ice from steps and sidewalks around buildings using shovels or snow blower. C2. Work at football stadium as maintenance worker during games. C3. Layout and stripe athletic fields. C4. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma Ability to attain UW System driver authorization within first week of employment Driver Authorization Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience preforming landscaping and grounds maintenance in a professional setting Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with customers, students, co-workers and supervisors Ability to perform groundskeeping activities and operate a variety of groundskeeping equipment Ability to direct, train and supervise student employees Knowledge of cleaning solutions and agents Knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials Ability to possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and be eligible to drive state owned vehicles Knowledge of fertilizer and herbicide application Ability to operate heavy motorized equipment Ability to operate a chain saw Ability to operate self-propelled lawn mowers Ability to operate string trimmers Knowledge of job safety and occupational hazards Ability to lift OSHA standards of 75 pounds, and at times 50 pounds above the shoulders Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and climb up and down without any impairment How to Apply: Applications received by June 10, 2026 are ensured full consideration.
