RSU 40 is looking for a qualified individual for our open Grades 7-12 (Medomak Valley HS and
Medomak MS) Full-Time Athletic Trainer position.
We are looking for a dedicated person who will be invested in the success of our students/athletes.
The Athletic Trainer will work with medical professionals and coaches to evaluate the athletes
condition, establish plans for diet, fitness, conditioning, treatment and track progress towards healthy
fitness goals and recovery from injuries. You should be motivated to assist athletes, coaches, and
families towards realizing their full potential. You must possess a strong understanding of sports
related injuries and treatment.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

QUALIFICATIONS: NATA Certification Required

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Preferred two years of successful experience as an athletic trainer or
similar experience

EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree, Masters degree preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:
Holds a valid CPR/AED Certification
Holds a valid State of Maine License for Athletic Trainers
Holds a valid National Athletic Trainers Association National Certification
Hold a valid CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) through the Maine DOE
Holds a valid state drivers license
ransportation must be available to/from various home athletic fields and facilities
Must be BOC certified and possess state athletic training licensure, certification or
registration
NPI Number Required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Applied knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of
medical problems.

Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be
needed.

Decision-making skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding
the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure
guidelines.

Attention to detail: Should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and
documentation.

Interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations
when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.

Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no
supervision.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop plans for providing athletic training coverage for all interscholastic home athletic
events.
Arrange for athletic trainer coverage when attending required off campus athletic events.
Work with coaches, athletes and medical professionals to evaluate and treat the players
condition.
Speak with coaches, athletes and family regarding treatment plans.
Refer athletes to other medical professionals for further diagnosis and treatments.
Assist and monitor players as they follow the treatment plans to return to play.
Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment.
Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility.
Develop comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans.
Establish a working relationship with the designated district physician and community
physicians.
Establish a working relationship with school nursing staff.
Complete (school systems) policies training to include: Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure
Control Plan training and comply with the regulations therein.
Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school
systems regulations, and outlined in the Athletic Injury Management section of the
schools athletic training program policies and procedures manual.
Develop coachs professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness &
Sudden Cardiac Arrest and other emergency situations.
Handle clerical tasks, such as maintaining inventory and restocking supplies.
Preparing materials and supplies ready for teams traveling to away contest.
Updating and distributing up to date athlete emergency contact forms for in season
coaches.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the high school and middle school athletes,
coaches, officials and game personnel and those of the visiting teams.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Attend off campus playoff games.
Attend away football contests. If there is a conflict in scheduling, football coverage is
primary.
Arrangements should be made for home contest coverage by a per diem, certified Athletic
Trainer.
Athletic Trainer may use the team bus transportation or use their personal vehicle with
mileage reimbursement.
