Assistant Athletic Trainer
Essential Job Functions
- Assists with planning, developing and implementing the athletic training program which includes preventing, assessing, rehabilitating and treating all injuries that the student-athletes may acquire while playing for any of the 15 sports (250 + student-athletes)
- Assists with running a proper health care facility with the proper working equipment, materials and supplies needed to comply with NATA standards
- Assists with developing overall sports medicine program for the University, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes
- Provides athletic training services for the University's athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary
- Assists with coordinating and scheduling physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete
- Works in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
- Assists with scheduling and coordinating athletic training staff and students for athletic training services of all team practices and athletic competitions
- Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program
- Ensures thorough and accurate record keeping
- Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- Two (2) years athletic training experience
Licenses/Certifications:
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or ability to achieve these certifications within 30 days of hire)
- Valid Driver's License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of a large range of medical problems
Good communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal
Good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite
Good organizational skills
Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines
Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities and multi-task
