Summary

Winlock High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to assist in coaching our high school wrestling team for the upcoming season. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to develop athletes' skills, promote teamwork, and foster a positive and competitive environment. This seasonal position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our wrestling program while mentoring young athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting daily practices, ensuring a safe and productive training environment.
  • Help develop and implement training programs that enhance athletes' technical skills, strength, and conditioning.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to athletes, focusing on skill development and performance improvement.
  • Monitor athletes' progress and provide feedback to help them achieve their personal and team goals.
  • Support the Head Coach in preparing for competitions, including organizing travel, coordinating equipment, and managing logistics.
  • Foster a positive team culture by promoting sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork among athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.
  • Assist in scouting and analyzing opponents to develop competitive strategies.
  • Attend all practices, competitions, and team meetings throughout the wrestling season.
  • Help maintain the wrestling facility, ensuring safety and cleanliness at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in wrestling as an athlete or coach, preferably at the high school level.
  • Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategies, and training methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach, other coaching staff, and school administration.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends during the wrestling season.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college experience in sports or physical education is a plus.
