ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) / Director of Athletics
JOB PURPOSE:
The Athletics Business Director oversees and manages the day-to-day business operations of the Athletics Department. This position serves as the primary liaison between Athletics and the College's Business Office and Human Resources Department, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, NCAA regulations, and budgetary guidelines. The Athletics Business Director oversees departmental budgets, financial reporting, personnel transactions, and business operations while providing support to coaches and administrative staff.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
- Uphold and administer departmental policies and procedures in accordance with Wagner College's internal controls and financial guidelines.
- Maintain current knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations and attend required meetings related to NCAA grants, compliance, and financial management.
- Oversee the daily operations and functions of the Athletics Business Office.
- Administer all departmental receipts and expenditures, including travel arrangements, travel account management, and financial recordkeeping for departmental employees.
- Review, approve, and reconcile expenses incurred on coaches' purchasing cards and Athletics Department credit cards through Oracle.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Athletics Department and the College Business Office.
- Prepare and distribute monthly budget reports to coaches and administrators to monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and Controller to ensure departmental financial operations align with budgetary goals and institutional policies.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) report and Northeast Conference (NEC) audits.
- Monitor NCAA and NEC grant expenditures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and reporting requirements.
- Partner with the Business Office and Associate Athletic Director for External Relations to monitor and reconcile Athletics-generated revenue.
- Oversee Human Resources-related processes within Athletics, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Prepare and issue part-time employment contracts.
- Coordinate the posting of Athletics Department vacancies through Oracle.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and direction for Athletics Business Office operations.
- Supervise assigned staff and student employees, as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with departmental procedures, institutional policies, and financial controls.
QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
- One to two years of experience in business administration, budgeting, accounting, athletics administration, or a related field preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred.
