- Recruiting for a candidate that is Registered as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and licensed in accordance with (KSA 65-5906) at time of hire and two years' experience as a dietitian with local WIC experience.

KDHE is comprised of three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (which includes the State's Medicaid program, KanCare). We are the only agency in the nation to have these three entities under one roof which allows us to take a holistic approach to improving and protecting the health and well-being of all Kansans.

Local Agency Support
Serve as the primary point of contact for nutrition and client services assigned local WIC agencies. Provide responsive support via email and phone on nutrition assessment, education, breastfeeding, client-centered services, and program implementation. Communicate policy updates, program expectations, and best practices. Build collaborative relationships to support service delivery and continuous improvement. Offer technical assistance and guidance to ensure consistent interpretation of WIC nutrition and client service policies. Host webinars and distribute newsletters to share program and nutrition updates, training opportunities, and resources. Collaborate with the WIC training coordinator to develop and deliver statewide training. Support onboarding and skill development for new nutrition staff. Share tools and evidence-based practices to enhance service quality. Communicate local agency performance and data trends to the state WIC team and external partners to support data-informed improvements.
Local Agency Monitoring and Evaluation
Conduct in-person, local agency management evaluations (MEs). Independently plan and conduct evaluations covering both administrative and nutrition components of client services. Oversee the development, updating, and maintenance of the ME process, including tools and internal policies and procedures. Schedule and coordinate MEs in collaboration with local agencies. Assess compliance with state policies and federal WIC regulations. Prepare evaluation reports with findings and recommendations for corrective action. Review and assess local agency responses to evaluations; propose modifications to ensure compliance. Monitor agency performance through data analysis, site visits, and regular communication. Continuously evaluate service delivery using reports, observations, and participant feedback.
Nutrition Services
Participate in the multi-state consortium to design, test, and implement changes to the WIC Management Information System (MIS) related to job responsibilities. Assist with direct ship formula orders. Manage contracts as assigned. Facilitate accomplishment of program objectives through WIC state and local agency personnel. Promote coordination of program services with various agency programs and stakeholders at the state, local, and regional level through oral and written communication and participation as a member of internal and external committees as assigned. Develop or participate in the development and periodic review and implementation of WIC nutrition services standards, nutrition management guidelines, quality assurance standards, risk factors, and nutrition education standards. Ensure all WIC nutrition related standards are consistent and justified, especially with assigned program areas. Collaborate in the development of interagency information and referral systems. Interpret and transmit current scientific information regarding areas such as food, diet, nutrition, and breastfeeding to WIC and other professionals through various media and professional training as assigned.

Policy and Procedure Review and Development
Research Federal regulations and creates new policies and procedures for implementation on a statewide basis, especially related to nutrition and client services. Revise current statewide policies and procedures to improve the delivery of services to WIC participants, especially related to nutrition and client services. Provide written comment and response to appropriate State and Federal agencies for proposed regulations, especially relating to nutrition and client services.
Learning
Participate in trainings, workshops, and conferences relevant to WIC responsibilities. Engage in continuous learning with a focus on applying knowledge to improve unit and program outcomes. Continue learning about the WIC program to stay current on policies, practices, and participant needs. Share new knowledge with colleagues to strengthen the program collectively and enhance services for participants.
Qualifications
Education:
High School, GED
Licensing & Certification:
Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered as a Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association at the time of hire.
Registered or eligible for registration as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration at the time of hire. Requires two years of local agency WIC experience.

Bachelors or Masters degree in Dietetics, Food/nutrition, Public health nutrition

Knowledge of maternal, child and clinical nutrition
Ability to use critical thinking and make judgments based on both facts and situational information.
Ability to remember facts, numerical data, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to read and understand documents written at the university level.
Experience working at the local agency level of the WIC Program
Ability to take professional initiative to achieve set goals and objectives.
Public speaking and training.
Experience in compiling data and and composing presentations.
Graduate school coursework may substitute for some experience.
Experience with the Kansas WIC Program.
Interpreting and presenting nutrition health topics accurately and effectively to groups.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Dietetic License with the appropriate State of Kansas agency within 6 weeks of job acceptance.
