The full story:
Background
Civil Construction is a specialty contractor based in Wichita, Kansas. Founded in 2016 as Parrent Concrete LLC, Civil Construction serves the commercial market, providing concrete foundations, floor slabs, concrete paving, asphalt paving, sidewalks, parking lot signage, and curb and gutter. With a reputation for producing quality work, Civil Construction is a preferred contractor for customers such as Walmart and Sam’s Club.
Challenges
Civil Construction’s mission is not only to construct buildings but also to build careers. As the company expands into the general contracting arena, it is creating new roles and advancement opportunities.
With growing hiring needs in the wake of today’s talent shortage for skilled trade roles, Civil Construction looked for alternatives to large, general job boards like Indeed to recruit qualified, highly professional candidates. The contractor needed a solution that would help its leadership team hire more efficiently, allowing them to focus on other priorities like project management and day-to-day business tasks.
Solutions
After researching alternatives to general job boards, Civil Construction found iHire, an employment platform with 57 industry-specific talent communities including iHireConstruction. With a subscription to iHire’s Job Slots – flexible, interchangeable job postings – and Resume Search, Civil Construction began to attract and source qualified candidates for positions including Construction Foreman, Concrete Foreman, and Construction Superintendent. They also collaborated with iHire’s Outsourced HR Services team to update their employee handbook, incorporating new policies and ensuring compliance.
Civil Construction later expanded its partnership with iHire by upgrading to the company’s all-in-one recruitment management solution, iHire360. With iHire360, Civil Construction’s jobs receive premium placement on iHire’s industry-focused communities, automatic postings on iHire’s partner network sites including Google for Jobs and LinkedIn, and unlimited Traffic Max upgrades that can generate 30% more views.
iHire360 also provides Civil Construction access to iHire’s AI-assisted sourcing tools, which continually find matching candidates for open jobs from its Resume Search database. Fresh, qualified candidates are sent directly to Civil Construction’s inbox, while the company can easily manage all candidates through iHire’s applicant tracking systems (ATS). From the intuitive ATS, Civil Construction can even communicate with candidates through AI-powered messaging tools, which help instantly craft and refine emails and text messages to confirm applications, schedule interviews, and more.
Additionally, Civil Construction received a custom-branded, premium career site with iHire360 that shares their current job openings, invites candidates to join their talent pool, and showcases their employer brand through photos, videos, and employee testimonials. Potential applicants are driven to the career site through social media and search engine ads and email campaigns managed by iHire’s marketing experts, which help elevate Civil Construction’s employer brand.
Lastly, as an iHire360 subscriber, Civil Construction works closely with their iHire Hiring Support Specialist to optimize their job postings and career site as they collaborate to execute a customized success plan.
Results
Through iHire’s industry-focused approach to talent acquisition, Civil Construction has hired five qualified candidates and counting in six months, including two Construction Foremen, a Construction Laborer, a Construction Superintendent, and an Accountant.
Since using iHire360, Civil Construction has been receiving a higher number of quality applicants faster. In fact, it hired three of its five new hires after upgrading to iHire360. And, with iHire360’s AI-powered resume sourcing, Civil Construction is saving time since they don’t have to manually search for passive candidates in the database.
Looking ahead, Civil Construction is eager to see what other results iHire360 will bring. Parrent also hopes the career site and the social media campaigns will help attract younger talent, as it is difficult to find early-career professionals interested in skilled trades.
“iHire has helped show us the importance of employer branding,” said Parrent. “We want to continue improving upon our career site to engage potential applicants and increase brand awareness. I am excited to see how it goes.”
