Job Description

Position Summary:  The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Arrowmont’s food service program to provide cost-effective, nutritious, well-received meals within budget guidelines. The Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of procedures and standards in food service. The position assists in the development of the food service and manages the kitchen and dining hall inventory of equipment and supplies. The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the creation of regular meal and special event menus, for the preparation of evening meals, and for training and overseeing staff and work-study students in the food service area. The position reports to the Director of Operations and manages a staff of one full-time professional, and a varying number of part-time support personnel including work-study students. The position is full-time, year-round, benefits eligible, and non-exempt.



  • Collaborates with Director of Operations to develop annual and long-term budgets for food service. Identifies equipment and supplies needed and researches suppliers for most effective function and cost.
  • Oversees inventories and orders supplies and equipment for food service as needed in accordance with budgeted guidelines.
  • Develops menus to provide nutritious, cost-effective, well-received meals for regular programs and special events. Emphasizes quality, presentation, variety and balance within budgeted guidelines.
  • Orders and receives food service supplies from providers. Schedules deliveries to minimize waste and disruption of operations, and maximize cost savings.
  • Oversees day-to-day kitchen operations. Orients and trains all kitchen staff and work-study students. Evaluates effectiveness of operations and response from students and instructors.
  • Prepares evening meals.
  • Manages operations to achieve all local, state and federal sanitary requirements for food service and housekeeping.
  • Participates in food service and housekeeping operations as needed to meet timelines and achieve goals, especially during off-season major housekeeping efforts.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as may be appropriate for the position.

Education and Experience:  High School Diploma and/or bachelor’s degree in dietary food services or nutrition background in related field.

Salary:  $45,000 annually plus benefits.
