Help Desk Analyst Jobs

Identify and help solve technology problems. Helpdesk analysts— also called computer or technical support specialists— may either provide individualized user assistance or troubleshoot and maintain whole computer networks. Those responsible for issues affecting the larger system investigate problems such as network glitches to determine and implement solutions. They also perform regular software upkeep and test existing systems in order to minimize the number of issues that occur.

Other helpdesk analysts provide personalized technology support to internal and/or external customers. Though some may make site visits, these analysts more often work exclusively through email or telephone communication. They pay close attention to the customer’s description of the issue and ask follow-up questions to guide their diagnoses. Communication skills are particularly important for this career, as analysts must also successfully walk users through resolution processes.
